If we had to ask which red grape variety floated the boat of our customers most, it would have to be Malbec in all its wonderful and varied formats. Whether from its traditional home in Cahors, or from its new best friend, Argentina, its lovely plummy, rich dark fruits seem to delight like no other. So we've taken our top four selling Malbecs, and combined them into a cracking 12 pack.
In this case you'll get the following Malbec mix:
Château du Cedre Camille Malbec 2018, Cahors, France (2 bottles)
This Malbec shows that whilst Argentina has made itself inescapably popular through this lavish grape variety, it woz the French wot got their first - and perfected it in Cahors. A wonderfully dark brooding compote of plum and cassis fruits, it has an intense juiciness, a herbal edge and a lovely juicy finish. Fabulous wine. Fabulous value. Top tier. Excellent with sun-dried tomato and roasted red pepper ravioli. 100% organic to boot!
Château du Cedre Heritage 2016, Cahors, France (1 bottle)
The big brother to Camille and from the same wonderful family vineyards. A delightfully dark, richly oaked mix up of cassis, plum and damson fruits, it has a wonderful streak of dark chocolate, mixed with earthy all spice and an exceptionally long finish. Wonderful with a moist, rich, leg of lamb, with baked vegetables and roast potatoes. Awesomeness all round.
El Abasto Malbec-Bonarda 2018, Mendoza, Argentina (1 bottle)
El Abasto are a marvellous winery situated in the heart of the Mendoza region of Argentina. Wonderfully full, rich, chocolatey, spicy, peppery mix of black cherry and redcurrant flavours in the mouth. Literally packed with juiciness, and big enough to go with anything chargrilled or roasted, but also fabulous just lightly chilled on a hot summer's day. One of those stunning all rounders that pretty much ticks all the boxes as far as reds go.
Santa Julia Organic Malbec 2018, Mendoza, Argentina (2 bottles)
This is a fabulous 100% organic Malbec from the heart of Mendoza, Argentina. Deep, floral and chocolaty-rich. Nice and complex red wine, surprisingly medium-bodied, with deep fig and chocolate, dipped cherry flavours and spicy nuances and lingering finish. Cracking with any kind of barbecued meat. Literally any kind!!
