Château Cissac, Cru Bourgeois, Haut-Medoc 2009 (Magnum)

Cissac is one of the up coming stars of the Haut-Medoc and its 2009 vintage is a perfect example of why. Just coming into its own after nearly 10 years in bottle, this is hitting its perfect drinking stride. Classic aromas of cassis fruit, spice, vanilla and cedar wood fill the nose – indicative of its 75% of Cabernet fruit. The palate is packed with rich, silky, soft fruit, a hint of spice and a thin but delicious streak of milk chocolate – more redolent of the 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot having their say. There is beautiful purity of fruit, lovely vibrant acidity and beautifully managed tannins all combining to make this absolute stunning wine to drink now or over the next five years.

The 2009 vintage was described by Robert Parker at the time as possibly being one of the “best vintages I have ever tasted in 32 years of tasting Bordeaux”. Combine that with the fact that it is almost £15 cheaper per magnum (duty, tax and VAT inc) than any other supplier in the market currently and its definitely worth bagging one or two in time for Christmas. Delivery @ end of October.
