Just think fresh, crunchy apples laced with tart lemon zest and a touch of tropical punch, all put together in a silky smooth creamy bundle that delights and tantalises the taste buds. This is a fabulous version from one of Rueda's oldest estates (been in the family since the late 1700s). Eponymous owner and wine maker Angel Rodriguez (of the estate's family) has been given numerous honours, including one by the King of Spain for his work in revitalising and bringing Verdejo back from the brink of obscurity and since he first planted the single vineyard that this wine comes from, the Martinsancho vineyard, way back in 1976. Indeed his work is so revered that many of the Verdejo's that are currently made, have been grown in vineyards that used cuttings from the Martinsancho vineyard. In other words, the man - and his wines - a tad bit legendary. Try this with tuna steak, or perhaps a lovely fresh sea bream. Delicious.
